The Sentence in the Body of the Paper That Backs Up the Topic
The Sentence in the Body of the Paper That Backs Up the TopicThis is often an area of confusion for first time authors. The sentence in the body of the paper that backs up the topic sentence is the actual source material for your paper. You will be working on this sentence during most of your writing time and a careless author will never fully understand what they are doing wrong. It is important to understand the basic concepts before you can get down to actually writing your paper. This includes understanding how an outline works, where it comes from, and why it is used. This is a necessity when you are learning to write a paper.Next, you should understand the nature of the structure. Structure is the lay out of your writing material and involves a series of linked ideas in order to give readers a sense of organization. Many writers make the mistake of having a 'U' shape or 'Y' shape for their material. The U shape is seen when you are setting up each idea, but in order to create a 'Y' shape you have to start at the beginning, move to the middle, and then move to the end.The first part of the paper will be the position statement. The position statement sets the tone for the entire paper. The first paragraph is essentially filler and should be descriptive. The third paragraph will generally contain the conclusion. In some situations this paragraph may be used to introduce and reinforce the main points of the paper. As you write the paper, you will realize that the conclusion serves a very important purpose. The fourth paragraph will set up the main topic of the paper. The paper should introduce the key concept that all others will be based on. After this there will usually be a point that supports the first topic statement. The fifth paragraph will be a section of the paper that supports the main topic statement. This paragraph may be one long paragraph. Sometimes it is just needed to give additional information to support the main statement. The final paragraph wi ll be the conclusion. This is usually a chapter. This is an area where a lot of writing occurs so it should not be left incomplete. Most students use the last paragraph as a way to wrap up and summarize the entire paper.
